Description
Diego Losada is a well-respected figure in the world of Mencia winemaking. Bodegas La Senda’s ‘1984’ Bierzo Tinto is 100% Mencia from old vines grown in three different vineyards in the Priaranza del Bierzo hills in Castilla y León, Spain. The grapes are cultivated on slate and clay soil, then partially destemmed and left on the skins in oak barrels for 7-8 days. Using native yeasts, the wine undergoes primary and malolactic fermentation before being aged for 8 months in chestnut barrels. The wine is bottled with a minimal intervention approach, only adding a small amount of sulphur. The wine boasts a vibrant and earthy palate with complex flavors of bright cherries, mandarin zest, lavender, and exotic spices. It is best served slightly chilled and pairs well with grilled or spit-roasted dishes.
