Description

Composition: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc

Château d’Aiguilhe is a stunning estate located in Castillon – Côtes de Bordeaux, which was acquired by Stephan von Neipperg in late 1998. The property dates back to the 13th century and was a fortified farm during that time. It is believed that the seigneury of Aiguilhe was once a vast territory that included several important fiefs. The Château played a significant military role during the Hundred Years’ War, being situated on the border between French and English-controlled areas. Today, the estate covers 111 hectares, of which 50 hectares are dedicated to winegrowing. The vines consist of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, growing exclusively on the upper part of the slope. The vines benefit from natural drainage and south-facing sun exposure, with the soil being a thin layer of clay-limestone and clay-silt covering a limestone substratum. These factors, combined with old vines, result in the production of powerful and mineral wines. Jean-Patrick Meyrignac expertly manages the estate, utilizing the tried and tested winegrowing methods used by Stephan von Neipperg at his Saint-Emilion estates. These include allowing the terroir to fully express itself, keeping yields low, and adopting a flexible approach to winemaking.
