Description

Composition: 100% Pinot Noir

The Spätburgunder from Haardt Herzog undergoes traditional burgundy-style maturing in small wooden casks, resulting in a delicate dark forest fruit fragrance with notes of blackberry, black cherry, and currant. Its lush body is supported by an elegant tannin structure, carrying through to a multi-layered finish.

Müller-Catoir, a family-owned winery since 1774, is now under the ownership of Philipp David Catoir, the 9th generation. Martin Franzen, originally from Mosel and responsible for both vineyards and cellar, works alongside Philipp David. Franzen took over from the legendary winemaker Hans-Günther Schwarz in 2002 and has become one of the most respected winemakers in Germany, continuing the tradition of being a great and friendly mentor. The winery is located in a sandstone manor house, built in the 1890s, overlooking some of the finest vineyards in the Pfalz. The main focus is on Riesling, but the winery also produces outstanding wines from aromatic varieties, including Scheurebe, Muskateller, and Rieslaner. The winery has adopted an organic conversion philosophy since 2012, resulting in a more mineral and complex taste. The cellar’s approach is hands-off, with minimal handling and spontaneous fermentation. Every wine produced is 100% estate grown, and the treatment of each vineyard is the same, regardless of hierarchy. The diversity of soils in the vineyards allows for the production of multiple styles at the highest level.
