Description

Composition: 70% Corvina, 20% Corvinone, 10% Oseleta, Spigamonte, Corbina, Turchetta. The wine is produced in the municipality of Romagnano, which is situated in the Valpolicella Valpantena region. The vineyards are situated at an elevation of 300-600 meters above sea level and face towards the south-southwest direction. The soil has a medium calcareous texture with a significant amount of stones and rocks, providing good drainage and aeration. The wine has a rich, intense ruby red color. Its aroma is refined, with hints of ripe red fruit and a subtle spiciness. On the palate, it is harmonious and velvety, with gentle tannins that make it easy to drink while still being persuasive.
Azienda Agricola Ottella is a winery that was established in 1880 by the Montresor family, who had been grape growers for generations. It is located in the D.O.C. region of northwest Italy, near Peschiera del Garda at the Southern end of Lake Garda. The winery’s name comes from a legend that tells of octuplets being born at the farm during the 16th century. Today, Azienda Agricola Ottella remains a family-owned business, with Lodovico, Francesco, and Michele Montresor as the current owners. The winery has 25 hectares (61.75 acres) of Trebbiano di Lugana, also known as ‘Turbiana’. While Trebbiano di Lugana is genetically similar to Verdicchio, studies have shown that it has unique characteristics in terms of phenology, agronomy, and oenology.
The winery uses a traditional double bow Guyot system for growing grapes, and the soil is of glacial origin. The melting ice and debris that flowed down the valley formed an amphitheater of moraine hills, with the Lugana basin left behind. The soil consists of varying layers of sediment, including thin layers of loamy and rough clay, with varying levels of clay content that create ‘leopard spots’.A small parcel of land called “Le Creete” is also owned by the Montresor family, and it is planted on a white chalky soil that gives its wine an exceptional character.
