Description

Composition: 50% Xinomavro, 35% Krassato, 15% Stavroto

Terra Petra is a red blend made from indigenous grape varieties, namely Xinomavro, Krassato, and Stavroto, grown on the slopes of Mount Olympus. The 2017 vintage of this wine, which is the third edition, exhibits a silky texture with tannins that reminds me of a Barolo-like feel. The grapes used to make this wine are grown using biodynamic methods, predominantly from old ungrafted vines (65 years average age) planted on a schist bedrock at an elevation of approximately 500m above sea level. The three grape varieties are grown side-by-side and hand-harvested and vinified together.

Thymiopoulos Vineyards is a family-owned winery located in the heart of Naoussa, a region in Northern Greece known for producing high-quality Xinomavro wines. The winery was founded in 2003 by Apostolos Thymiopoulos, a young winemaker who has quickly become one of Greece’s leading producers. Thymiopoulos Vineyards cultivates its vineyards using organic and biodynamic methods, which results in wines that are pure and expressive of the terroir.
