Description

Composition: This particular wine is composed of 70% Sauvignon Blanc, with the addition of 10% Chardonnay, 10% Malvasia Bianca, and 10% Fernao Pires. It is intended to resemble white wine blends originating from Friuli, Italy. The wine’s medium gold hue is accompanied by a sweet and fragrant bouquet that is both floral and tropical in character, with hints of honeysuckle, mango, and citrus. On the palate, the wine has a notable brightness and freshness that lingers. It features flavors of lemon and lime, as well as a citrus zest on the finish, and subtle notes of lemongrass.

Brendel Wines utilizes a Napa Valley blend comprising 20% from St. Helena, 10% from Oak Knoll District, and 70% from other regions in the valley. The wine is unoaked and aged for eight months in stainless steel, preserving its freshness. The winemaker at Brendel Wines is Brittany Sherwood, a former assistant winemaker at Heitz Cellars, who brings extensive knowledge and experience to the winery.

Brendel Wines, established in 2019, is part of Lawrence Wine Estates, a collection of renowned wineries located in the Napa Valley and owned by Gaylon Lawrence. Lawrence Wine Estates includes other notable wineries such as Burgess Cellars, Heitz Cellar, Ink Grade Estate, and Stony Hill Vineyard, among others. The winery’s name is inspired by Leon Brendel, who was born in Alsace, France, in 1884, and came from a family of winegrowers.
In 1915, Brendel relocated to the state of Coahuila in northern Mexico, where he served as the wine chemist for the country’s president at the time, Francisco I. Madero, at Madero Winery. After 15 years in Mexico, Brendel moved to the Napa Valley in 1930. In 1940, he became the founding winemaker and chemist at Freemark Abbey following the sale of the property to the Ahern family. Brendel remained at Freemark Abbey throughout the 1950s and was recognized as one of the best-established winemakers in the Napa Valley, according to a Napa Valley Register article dated September 10, 1952.
