Description
Casa della Ginestra was established by Paolo Conterno in 1886, not long after the birth of Barolo wines. As one of the pioneering growers in Langhe, he broke away from the established practice of selling wine through négociants and instead offered barrels of wine directly to consumers from the cellar. His wines garnered a loyal following among connoisseurs, and the independent estate has continued to thrive for five generations.
Today, the estate is led by Giorgio Conterno, who produces exceptional, classically styled wines from the Ginestra cru. These wines are renowned for their deep color, brooding tannins, and remarkable aromatics, which are characteristic of the dense, clay-rich Helvetian soil and relatively high altitude of the vineyard. Casa della Ginestra’s winemaking approach is steeped in tradition, with extended macerations and aging in large casks. The resulting wines perfectly reflect the excellence of the Ginestra cru, with their pure and focused perfumes, balance, approachability, and remarkable potential for aging.
